Reserving NMR Time
Procedure

In order to use the Inova 600 or Bruker 600 NMR spectrometers, NMR time must be reserved. Our facility utilizes the FACES NMR website, which was developed by, and is maintained by, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Group at the University of Georgia to reserve NMR time.

The procedure outlined below is used to reserve NMR time. A more detailed set of instructions can be downloaded by clicking here
  1. Complete the NMR for New Users training session. You will be given your own unique FACES username and password at the end of this training session.
  2. Go to the FACES NMR website.
  3. Log-in using your given username and password. The group name for all users is uwonmr.
  4. Under the drop-down list labeled "Choose a Schedule", select either the Inova 600 or the Bruker 600. A calendar of the current week will be displayed.
  5. Place the cursor over the desired time and day and left-click.
  6. If a 10-minute reservation if sufficient, then left-click again. If more time is desired, move the cursor down until the correct time period is selected; left-click to select the appointment.
  7. At the next window, verify that the day and time are correct, then click on the "Go!" button.
  8. The message, "Your appointment was successfully added to the Schedule." should appear. Click on the "OK" button.
  9. If additional time is to be booked on the same spectrometer, repeat steps 5-8. If time is to booked on a different spectrometer, repeat steps 4-8.
  10. When all desired reservations have been made, click on "Logout".
Policies and Rules

The following rules must be followed when reserving NMR time:
  1. The minimum reservation is 10 minutes.
  2. Please show-up promptly at your reserved time and do not exceed your allotted time.
  3. During prime-time, a maximum of 2 hours per day may be reserved per person. For example, the 2 hour maximum can be 4 30-minute time slots, or 1 2-hour reservation.
  4. For users that are acquiring multiple NMR spectra and must remain at the spectrometer the entire time (for example, VT experiments, kinetics studies, titrations), a maximum of 3 hours may be reserved per day per person. A 3-hour reservation must be approved by an NMR facility staff member.
  5. No user shall reserve NMR time for another user.
  6. From Sunday through Thursday, overnight experiments must start after 6:00 pm and must be completed by 9:00 am the following day.
  7. If you fail to show up for your reservation, you will still be charged for the entire reservation time.
