Bio Dr. Laura Melnyk Gribble (BA, McMaster 1995; PhD, McGill 2002) is the Department Chair and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. I was raised in Hamilton, Ontario. I completed my honors BA, summa cum laude, at McMaster University in Hamilton in 1995. I then commenced doctoral studies at McGill University in Montréal, Québec, under the supervision of Dr. Maggie Bruck, earning a PhD in Psychology in 2002. I started as an Assistant Professor at King’s directly upon completing my PhD and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2007. I have served in several leadership roles at King's:
I regularly teach undergraduate courses in Psychology and Law, Forensic Psychology, and Developmental Psychology. Over the last 20 years, I have had the pleasure of teaching over 5600 undergraduate students. In my first year of teaching, I was the recipient of the university-wide Western University Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, presented by the University Students' Council, the Bank of Nova Scotia, and the Western Alumni Association. I was awarded the King's University College Award of Excellence in Teaching in 2010. I've been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll of Teaching Excellence in every year I've taught at King’s and I'm cited in Maclean’s "Guide to Canadian Universities" (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). I have an active research program in forensic developmental psychology, with a focus on investigative interviewing, lineups (face recognition), and eyewitness memory. My research is published in peer-reviewed journals and regularly presented at international conferences. Here's my Google Scholar profile. I'm an ad-hoc reviewer for several psychology-law, applied cognitive, and developmental journals, including Applied Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Child Abuse & Neglect, Child Maltreatment, Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling, Journal of Applied Memory and Cognition, Journal of Psychology, Crime, and Law, and Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology. I'm pleased to share my expertise with the community: I have testified as an expert witness and served as a consultant in several Canadian legal cases. I've given talks for the London Police Services and the London-Middlesex Children's Aid Society on interviewing children. My media appearances include interviews with CBC Radio, CIXX-FM, McLean's, and the Globe and Mail. I'm a member of several professional associations:
