The London & Area Food Bank

The London & Area Food Bank

Due to its popularity amongst the UWOSA members, we have been here to volunteer many times.  The food bank is located by Commissioner’s Rd E, just off of Adelaide Rd S, in a manufacturing building.  The back of the building is a warehouse of boxes and gaylords (incredibly large boxes) filled with food.

The food bank supports more than 2800 families, and 7500 individuals each MONTH.  The food bank provides a 3 day food hamper that is intended to meet the urgent needs of the clients.  They also have diapers, baby food, and hygiene products.

In addition to providing food to individuals, the food bank also supplies breakfast items to schools for the Kids’ Breakfast Program.  For more information, go to www.londonfoodbank.net

In the years that we’ve been going, we’ve emptied more than 5 gaylords of food and filled more hampers than I can count.

Hamper Room

We filled this room on December the 19th and was empty by Tuesday of that week.

Tampon Tuesdays

If ever there was a more ambiguous event name, this would be it!  The entrance fee for this intriguing event is a box of tampons or package of pads, which is delivered to the London & Area Food Bank.

This event is held at Jack Astors on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 4 until 7pm; free finger foods supplied by Jack Astors.
