What are cryptids?

Cryptids are amazing and fantastic creatures that hide just out of view of the public. These creatures that have known faces and names through word of mouth alone and are rarely encountered. The existances of these creatures are highly debated in the scientific community and those who openly believe are at times mocked. Yet these creatures aren't always fiction. The Giant Squid was thought to be an old wives tale told by sailors to scare children. It wasn't until 2004 that a whole specimen was discovered by zoologists to confirm the existance of giant squids. It took until recently for a giant squid to be filmed in its natural habitat due to the deep waters they live in. Who are we to dictate what can and can not exist without evidence to back up our beliefs?
