Terrestrial Oddities
- Deep Dive Into the Mysteries That Make Us -
A pair of glowing eyes stare from deep in the forest and they are the eyes of a predator. In the deep dark woods, there has always been a danger for human beings, crawling on all fours and waiting for their guard to drop. In our oldest stories, humans warn their children to be wary of the dark and to stay close to the path. Humans developed these stories from our experience with what awaits us in the shadows. Some of these monsters are really just endangered creatures looking for respite from humanity. Others are the creations of men used to inspire belief in that beyond what we know. The stories below explore more than just monsters and the places they hide but look at what our society sees and values. Urban legends can show us what our society fears most and what intrigues us enough to face these fears.
The stories below are of predominantly Canadian and American cryptids who live in our forests, our mountains and in our own neighbourhoods. These creatures are a mix of more recent urban designs and indigenous legends.
