Transferrable Skills
I’m sure many of you have gotten this question before: “What are you going to do with that degree?” You might even yourself be thinking: “What I am going to do with this course?” Well, my hope is to inspire you to read and study Young Adult literature more. Even if you do not do that, though, there is still lots you can take with you from this course to serve you in any future academic studies and/or career. Here are just some of the transferrable skills that this course will foster:
- Writing formal academic reflections and papers
- Research skills (especially for your comparison assignment)
- Communication (both orally and in writing)
- Critical thinking skills
- Critical reading skills
- Collaboration (working with small groups in class, and discussing with friends outside of class)
- Creative skills (for your final project)
- Developing the ability to take time and reflect on an experience
- Informal skills, like how to use the library, access materials that you need but do not yet have, et cetera
- Time management
- Organization
- Responsibility
- How to work through disagreements
